I attended college with Catherine at FIDM. As soon as we met we became fast friends! Catherine eventually ended up working for Beckley while developing her now SUPER successful blog. Her take on healthy living is very refreshing! We are so excited to feature her on our blog, and she has also featured us today too! Head over to her site to read our RFFMBT questions AND for a chance to win our beetle print scarf!! -KH
Tell us a little bit about you!
Hi, I’m Catherine and I blog over at www.RabbitFoodForMyBunnyTeeth.com
Since I was a little tyke, I always knew that I wanted to do something creative when I grew up. After countless painting, sketching, pottery, still life, and digital media art classes throughout my elementary and high school education, I decided to further my creative education at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) with a degree in Graphic Design. After graduation, I went on to study Graphic Design at Art Center College of Design, and during my time at ACCD, I realized that I was spending so many hours sitting at the computer and not spending nearly enough time taking care of my health. After completely changing my sedentary lifestyle, I found a new passion for health and fitness. 80 lbs later, Rabbit Food For My Bunny Teeth was launched. I wanted to share my weight loss journey and new found passion with others seeking similar goals and knew that a blog was the perfect way to start. RFFMBT is filled with healthy recipes, fitness tips, and creative workout themed DIYs to motivate and inspire others to achieve their goals of a healthy lifestyle while having fun. I wanted to separate my blog from the others in it’s category, and make a healthy lifestyle easy, affordable, fun, and always fashionable! As I was starting to think that my years spent in college were a complete waste, I realized that I was able to use my creativity and Graphic Design background to create RFFMBT. I was able to take photographs, program, and brand my blog with what I had learned at FIDM and ACCD, which has been so incredible for me. My two worlds of Graphic Design & healthy living had collided and turned into something I could have never imagined! Not only has RFFMBT turned into a positive community for others to be a part of, but it has also become a business and full time job for myself (talk about dream job!). Before RFFMBT’s one year mark, I landed sponsorships with DOLE and Chobani Greek yogurt! Maybe a Rabbit Food For My Bunny Teeth cookbook is in the future?!
What can you not live without?
Big Fatty Mascara by Urban Decay and my huge Mary Poppins-sized Louis Vuitton tote!
Favorite fashion memory?
The matching Watermelon outfits that my mom, sister, and I had in the 90′s. So chic. That’s me on the right!
White on white on white! I love white space in design, white interiors, white cars, white teeth, white animals, and white accessories. But when it comes to clothing, I always wear black. It’s timeless, chic, and uber slimming! I guess you can call me Coco Chanel. ha.
How does fashion influence your job/everyday life?
I think a very overlooked part of the fashion industry is workout apparel. I love love love workout fashion. Or should I say, gym culture! i.e. paparazzi photos of Nicole Richie leaving the gym with her oversized Chanel sunnies and Balenciaga. Workout clothes have never looked so good! There is nothing like the confidence boost you get from some new lulus and fresh kicks from Nike. It’s the new casual sexy. I think it’s important to feel good about how you look when you are going to workout. I’m not saying you need to pile on the makeup, but lets face it, gyms are covered in floor to ceiling mirrors, and if you’re not happy with how you look, you’re not going to be very motivated to stay in the gym and finish your workout. I love how Bar Method classes have become a fashion show! Everyone is always wearing their newest lulus and I always have outfit envy! It’s fun to see people’s personal style reflect in their workout attire and know that they are that much more excited to show it off and exercise.
If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go?
Disneyland. I’m a kid at heart!
True Food Kitchen. Totally obsessed with their Tuscan Kale Salad with Smoked Tempeh & Edamame Dumplings. If you like juice, their Kale Aid is uh-mazing.
Do you have a “neighborhood find” you can suggest?
Kimski Makes is my favorite hidden gem in Little Tokyo, Downtown LA. They have funky, unique accessories that you can’t find anywhere else! After browsing Kimski, I love getting sushi at Hama a few doors down. They have very traditional rolls (so traditional that they have a sign in front reading “Only sushi & sashimi. No tempura. No Teryaki. No Noodles. No Rice Alone.”) and excellent seared ahi!
Favorite BeckleybyMelissa piece?
My grey BeckleybyMelissa Long Sleeve Asymmetric Stripe Shirt from FA11! It’s comfy yet super sexy! I would wear this every day if I could!
